Before I start with this week’s story, I wanted to say that using this blog to talk about my Uber driving stories feels nice. So nice that I decided my experiences driving for Uber will be the main topic of this blog, hence the name change. I don’t know how long I’ll be keeping this up now that I’m looking for a job and ENG101 is almost over, but I’ll try.
Tips. An extra bit of income that can really determine how well I do in any given month. However, I have been tipped in more than just cash. The common alternative tip I’ve received is food, usually from a restaurant with a drive-thru, but riders have also offered alcohol and cannabis. Very recently, I was tipped with rotisserie chicken in a plastic container. It was a rider who looked and sounded exhausted, like a long days work, and brought with him a big tin foil tray and chicken on top. We arrived at his dropoff and as he was about to leave the car he looks back at me and asks, “Are ya hungry?” It was about as random as I make it to be. I was already thinking about swinging by a McDonald’s so I accepted and he gave me the chicken on top with barely any bites out of it. Now I know what it’s like to drive people around with a cooked chicken in my lap, but I kinda wish people asked about it. No one after that ride seemed to notice. It was tasty.
That was very nice of the man who gave you chicken especially the fact that you were already thinking about grabbing food after so it worked out well. As far as people offering you other things like alcohol or cannabis, what is the craziest thing that you were offered as a tip? I honestly would prefer the cash but at least it is nice to know that people try to tip you with something rather than nothing at all.
